From Alexandria to Kansas City

Alexandria

It is the fate of Alexandria to be in the corner of the Egyptian map,
As if trying to escape belonging.

Nothing is new under the sky of Alexandria.
Everything happened there before.
And nothing matters anymore.

Alexandria is a great general who never lost a war until his last battle,
He sat on his army's rubble, asking:
"How did I end here?
And what will it benefit a wolf to gain the whole world's intelligences if he lost his teeth?”

Or, it is an old dancer, but still seductive.
If you meet her she will never listen to you.
She is always talking about how great her old lovers were.
You cannot surprise her.
She had experienced everything already.
But she will surprise you every day when she removes one of her veils.

When you reach Alexandria you will check your glasses, because you won’t be able to see any difference between winter and summer, Egyptians and foreigners, Christians and Muslims, or black and white.
History has melted them all, and it will melt you too!

Kansas City

It is the fate of Kansas City to be in the heart of the American map,
It has all the contradictions of the new land,
Where everything is naturally extreme,
Even this poem;
History has not had enough time to melt everything yet.

When you reach Kansas City you will find yourself,
Not because your soul is waiting for you there,
But because you will know exactly what attracts you,
When you have to pick a box.
I confused the boxes when I came from Africa with a light skin.
But Kansas City does not like confusion.
It gave me the white box!

You will see everything there clear,
And its opposite is also clear,
But no mixture.
Everything is wild, and nothing is in the middle.
Kansas City is a bipolar teen girl, pretty and wild.
When you look at her you will feel as if you are watching an old TV,
Where everything is black and white.
No color in between.
The weather is either gorgeous or miserable,
And the city changes between them in minutes.

No people live here.
Only angels and devils.
You can be either Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde.
You cannot be both in Kansas City!
